If you're performing any e-business transactions on your website where a customer is required to enter information (personal details, credit card information, etc) -- it is essential to secure and encrypt communications to ensure other internet users can't eavesdrop on the 'conversation.'
A secure webserver uses Secure Sockets Layer (SSL3) to encrypt traffic between a customer's web browser and the web server. This requires a Server Certificate to function - which identifies your site to the browser. This certificate is issued by various Certification Authorities - which through a number of steps confirm that you are legally entitled to use the domain name and that your company information is correct.
A secure server is linked to a domain name - such as secure.orcon.net. It is accessed using the https protocol, so customers will need to enter https://secure.orcon.net/ to access your secure website.
We use and recommend Thawte secure certificates.

The process is relatively simple, but can take some time - as the validity of information supplied is carefully checked for correctness. Once the process is completed, your secure website space will be setup - and you can access it the same way you would for any other site on our network.
The following information is needed to start your order. Please fax these documents through to Orcon on (09) 444-4444. We cannot start the process until this documentation is supplied.
- Copy of Certificate of Incorporation - A document identifies the company's legal name and is used to validate the domain name records. (Individuals or other organisations should contact us to discuss the best method of identification)
- Proof of domain name ownership - Orcon will generate this from the domain name you supplied below. If you are using a sub-domain or domain which is not owned by you, then a letter authorising the use of this domain name is needed.
