The Computer You're Dialing into Does Not Respond
Keywords: dialup connect problem, error 629, does not respond to network request, microsoft windows
When you are using Windows 95 to dial into a Windows 95 Dial-Up Networking server, you may receive the following error message: The computer you're dialing into does not respond to a network request. Check your server type setting in the properties of the connection.
For Windows 95/98/ME, make sure that TCP/IP has both been selected and installed.
To see if TCP/IP is selected for your Orcon connection, click the Start button, point to Programs, point to Accessories, and then click Dial-up Networking. Right click on the Orcon connection, then left click on Properties. Click on the Server Types tab (or Networking tab for Windows ME) along the top. Make sure there is a tick showing next to TCP/IP.
To see if TCP/IP is installed, click the Start button, move the mouse up to Settings, then click on the Control Panel. Double click on the Network icon, and make sure you have TCP/IP showing. If you have other components installed, then you will have TCP/IP bound to Dial-up Networking instead.
Note: Please make sure that you only have one instant of TCP/IP (or TCP/IP -> Dial-up Networking) showing. If you have duplicates for TCP/IP, remove one of them.
If the protocol is already present, reinstall Dial-up Networking. To reinstall Dial-up Networking, click the Start button, move the mouse up to Settings, then click on the Control Panel. Double click on the Add/Remove Programs icon, then click on the Windows Setup tab along the top. Double click on Communications, and remove the tick from Dial-up Networking. You may receive a prompt window advising that other components are using Dial-up Networking. Just click Yes to unbind all these other components. Click OK then Apply to remove all components of Dial-up Networking.
Once the above step has been completed, double click on the Add/Remove Programs icon, then click on the Windows Setup tab along the top. Double click on Communications, and place a tick next to Dial-up Networking. Click OK then Apply to reinstall all components of Dial-up Networking.
