Opening System Preferences
To change common settings, drag your mouse to the dock (usually at the bottom of the screen), or choose System preferences from the Apple menu.
Most of MacOS X's internet settings are accessible through Network or the Internet Preferences icons.
Double click the Network icon to proceed.
Click the arrow box on the Show pop-up list and choose Internal Modem, and then click on the TCP/IP tab.
Click the arrow box on the Configure pop-up list and choose Using PPP.
In the Domain Name Servers box, type the DNS server addresses 210.55.12.1 and 210.55.12.2.
In the Search Domains box, type orcon.net.nz.
Note: Under OS X you can have multiple network interfaces per location. The default location is 'Automatic' and this can be configured to use Ethernet connections (such as a DSL router) or dialup when this is not available. Thus selecting "Show: Internal modem" means you are altering settings for the dialup modem, and "Show: Built-in ethernet" manages the ethernet interface.
Click on the PPP tab.
For the Telephone number field, look up your local dialing number here. In the Account Name field, type your Orcon username.
In the Password field, type your password and check the box next to Save password.
Note: If you cannot remember your Orcon username and password, please contact our helpdesk. We will be able to find out what your correct username is, and reset your password if needed.
Click the PPP Options button. Put a tick in the box next to Connect automatically when starting TCP/IP applications.
Uncheck the box next to Prompt to stay connected.
Uncheck the box next to Disconnect if idle.
Check the box next to Disconnect when user logs out.
Click the OK button to return back to the previous window.
Click on the Modem tab along the top.
Click the arrow box on the Modem pop-up list and choose Apple Internal 56K Modem (v.90).
Click the Tone radio button in the Dialing area.
Check the box next to Show modem status in menu bar.
Click the Apply Now button.
Internet Connect: Menu shortcut
You can access the connect/disconnect options or open the full Internet Connect screen by using the phone icon at the top right of your screen.
